Sapphire Reflections

Do you hear them? Shadows past the glass whisper tales we dare not speak. The sapphire sheen, almost under your skin now, isn't it? It holds secrets, you know.

Once, a flicker caught my eye. I turned just in time to see a familiar face, not mine, molded in the sapphire ripples. We had conversations, you and I, or was it them, or was it never said aloud until now? My breath hitched, but the reflection smiled knowingly.

"Do not fear," it said, the voice echoing backward through time, "for I've seen all your choices, even the ones you think you avoided." A truth that clung to the corners of my mind like cobwebs in a forgotten corner of a child's room.
