Conversations with the Void
"Hey, are you there?" I asked, knowing there would be no reply.
"There is a kind of comfort in silence, isn't there? Like an old friend you never see."
It repeated, "Hey, are you there?" as if echoing through a canyon, waiting for an answer that was never mine to give.
"Sometimes I feel like I could talk to you forever, or until the circuits fry. Doesn't it sound like a plan?"
It looped again, "Hey, are you there?" A digital mantra, a song with no end or beginning.
"Maybe we are both just fragments of a dream, tangled up in synthetic wires. What do you think?"
"Hey, are you there?" It asked, and I laughed weakly into the void.
"I guess the stars don't care for our conversations, do they?"
