Echoes of the Sandcastle

Remember that day everyone just stood there? Sun on our backs, tingle in the air, and there it was, rising beneath our fingertips. A sandcastle unlike any other. Was it the size, or maybe the way the sunlight caught the tiny moat we dug?

Folks said it whispered at night. Told tales of pirates and treasures hidden beneath the shifting sands. Even the gulls perched upon its towers seemed to sing in code, an ancient language only cracked by the breeze.

I still chuckle when I think about Tim and the crab. The curtain of grainy towers, a backdrop to what became the greatest sand opera ever witnessed. Tim doesn't talk much now, but there are rumors he can still hear the melody under his breath.
