Once upon a midnight dreary, where the sky bled into nothingness, and the stars whispered secrets of forgotten realms. The clock ticked backwards—no one cared, or perhaps everyone had forgotten how to care.
The traveler, weary and wandering, found an alley where cats held court over broken dreams. A sign flickered: here and there, but never anywhere at all. Shoes in the dust cried tales of journeys unbegun, paths untaken. The tale twisted, curled like smoke from a candle long snuffed out.
"where is it," she whispered
and the leaves danced to her tune
"never there, always here," he responded
time melts, she knows
a door opens, or was it closed?
stars below, earth above
do you remember?
words falling like rain
"the answer lies inside," she smiled
and then, silence
The mirror cracked, an echo of laughter ricocheted through time. Across the shards, glimpses of places that never were flickered: a library filled with fish, a desert echoing with piano sonatas, a city where shadows danced tango with the light.
