The Star's Gentle Goodbye

The star is very very old now. Its heart is tired and it whispers softly.

"I am like a lantern in a big room," it says, "and soon I will be just a sweet memory."

The little star giggles, "I think I will wear a blanket of sparkles when I fall asleep."

It closes its shy eyes and hums a lullaby, "Goodnight, dear planets. I love you so."

But the planets are far away, sleeping in their own dreams. They can only listen and hope.
