Silent Echoes

In the void where sound becomes a cosmic ghost, invisible waves traverse the interstellar seas. Here, two forms linger — one, a passenger of the tides, the other, an echo of resonance.

Mara floated, her transparent form catching errant starlight as she hummed a melody ancient to her kind but foreign to any who might hear. Around her, the void breathed, drawing in and expelling the faint remnants of her song.

"Do you hear that?" whispered Etan, a being of the terrestrial. Its face, etched with lines of earth's stories, turned towards Mara, hoping she might validate his perception.

"It's the weft of a woven sound," she replied, her voice rippling like water disturbed by a stone. "An echo which speaks to those who understand silence."

Etan closed his eyes, letting the sound wash over him. A shooting star swept through their immediate reality — sweeping, listening, observing as it traversed the infinite.

"Am I to remain a traveler of dreams forever adrift?" he pondered aloud, casting his query into the space between breaths and echoes.

"We are all travelers," Mara sung, a soft resonance forming a bridge between them. "Some walk on the surface, others swim through the depths, and a few, like us, learn to fly on sound waves."

The celestial murmurs answered her in a way that was both comforting and unsettling. The void wrapped around them, a cocoon or perhaps a cage. Somewhere, a clock ticked — though no physical clock could survive amid such desolation.

Etan looked at Mara with eyes that sought more than answers; he hoped for companionship in this vast expanse. "Take me with you, wherever the silent echoes lead."

"Let your heart tune to the silence," was the only advice she offered; a challenge masked as a lullaby.

The journey would echo into eternity, yet in its echo, they might find the rhythm of their destinies entwined.
